GWC honored for its efforts in making international cycling Championship a success

March 12, 2017

GWC (Q.S.C.), the leading logistics provider in the State of Qatar, has been honored by the Organizing Committee of the UCI Road World Championships Doha 2016 for its role as the logistics provider during the international cycling tournament. An award was presented by Qatar Cycling Federation Chairman H.E. Sheikh Khaled bin Ali Al Thani to GWC’s Corporate Communications Manager Mr. Mohammad Daoud at a ceremony held at the Ritz Carlton Doha on November 28, 2016.

“Our GWC Sports logistics team always works diligently to demonstrate Qatar’s readiness in handling landmark international events, as the country heads towards staging World Cup 2022,” said GWC Corporate Communications Manager Mr. Mohammad Daoud.

The State of Qatar hosted the international cycling championship in October 2016, which was attended by around 1000 racers from 75 countries and more than 5700 participants from national federations, delegations, technicians and journalists in addition to around 30,000 fans and millions of spectators from all over the world.

The event featured several specific requirements due to being held across seven different venues which required the blockading of roads according to a schedule provided by the local police authorities over a strict 13-day schedule. GWC provided the manpower, transport assets, and IT equipment needed to run the events. In addition to managing the event organizer’s warehouses in terms of receiving, wrapping, racking, and dispatching their materials. The event required over 26,000 man-hours of intense, time-sensitive labor, with over 25 supervisors managing a team of over 100 workers at any time. The team moved over 17,000 barricades as and when needed, and other furnishings and assets were shipped, reshipped, and relocated across the various locations. Upon completion of the event, the team provided the reverse logistics necessary to return all assets from the various venues back to the warehouses and in some cases to their country of origin.

“GWC has provided logistics support for every major international sports event held in the State of Qatar since 2006, we have been effective partners for these events by giving particular respect to quality and customer service through the integration of people, technology, and business systems.” Commented Mr. Ranjeev Menon, GWC Group CEO “We’ll not spare an effort in helping Qatar present itself in the most adequate manner globally, while being true to achieving Qatar’s National Vision 2030 values and goals,” he added

GWC continues to grow in the Qatari market, with an increase of 11% in its net profits, achieving QAR 150 million, as compared to QAR 135 million by the end of the same period in 2015. The company’s total revenues also grew to QAR 634 million at the end of the quarter, a 4% increase from QAR 608 million in the first three quarters of 2015. The company’s assets continued to develop, with total assets reaching QAR 3.61 billion by the end of September 2016, compared with QAR 2.981 billion at the end of December 2015, representing a 21% growth.
