Empowering Qatar's MSMEs

August 28, 2024

GWC’s Al Wukair Logistics Park at the Heart of Economic Development

Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) make up 90% of businesses worldwide and contribute more than 50% of global GDP. Qatar proudly champions MSMEs, which are driving the economy in numerous ways.

As the country advances towards the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, the role of MSMEs in upholding the four pillars of human, social, economic, and environmental development is pivotal. Whether it’s diversifying the economy away from fossil fuels, adapting in a post-COVID world, or promoting sustainability, MSMEs are driving positive change across the nation.

International MSMEs Day, held annually on June 27 under the auspices of the United Nations, highlights the importance of these enterprises. This year’s theme is ‘Leveraging the Power and Resilience of MSMEs to Accelerate Sustainable Development and Eradicate Poverty in Times of Multiple Crises.’

This year’s International MSMEs Day resonates deeply with GWC’s commitment to fostering economic sustainability through strategic infrastructure development. GWC also announced the launch of the Al Wukair Logistics Park Directory, which serves as a platform to boost MSME growth and enhance partnerships and alliances within the local market. It aims to empower MSMEs to succeed and achieve their goals, especially following the successful first and second phases of Al Wukair Logistics Park, which attracted a significant number of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises. This initiative reinforces Qatar’s position as a promising and attractive destination for MSMEs.

Economic Sustainability

Al Wukair is designed with a focus on economic sustainability, providing cost-effective solutions that enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of MSMEs. By reducing operational costs and offering scalable logistics solutions, the park enables businesses to achieve long-term growth and stability. This infrastructure is pivotal in driving economic diversification and sustainability in Qatar, aligning with national and regional development goals.

GWC’s Group CEO, Ranjeev Menon, highlighted the importance of sustainable development in the logistics sector, stating: “At GWC, we are committed to creating sustainable infrastructure that not only supports the growth of MSMEs but also contributes to the broader economic stability and development of Qatar and the GCC region. Al Wukair Logistics Park is a testament to our dedication, providing a robust foundation for businesses to flourish sustainably.”

Cost-Effective, Accessible, and Outstanding Service

Al Wukair is home to a host of businesses – all benefitting from plug-and-play solutions. The facility features 137,500m² of dry warehouses, 225,000m² of air-conditioned warehouses, 22,000m² of freezer/chiller warehouses, 6,000m² of showrooms and shops, 205,000m of light industrial workshops, and 305,000m of open/container yard storage.

Tenants at Al Wukair are extremely complimentary about the facility – which is helping them to significantly grow their businesses.

Jassim Karim is the Managing Partner of SSG International Trading, which manufactures electromechanical lighting accessories, mechanical components, and marine products. He said: “We chose Al Wukair because it’s an absolutely amazing facility with the highest standards of safety. It is very economical and very accessible for our team, our staff, and all our suppliers and customers.”

Toney G., Managing Director of Luxicor, which creates luxury décor services and fit outs, said: “The team here is great, as is having a lot of companies in one place. We also have materials available locally and GWC giving you great service. This is the best place to be.”
